Shoot-what-ya-brung II
Shootwhatchabrung II was a big success. We had twelve shooters, one of them was a junior, and he stole the show. We shot
at the traditional poker chip targets that we have used since the event began, but this
time we used the really good thick ones. Wow, will they take a hit. Suspended bottles of wine fell to rimfires, centerfires,
and pistols, after the poker chip link in the strings holding them up was shattered.
The last bottle hanging,
was the dreaded rope. This target took us a couple of hundred rounds last time to shoot down. Not so today. We had about
eight or nine shooters into the first round of the event. Trevor Brookes stepped up, and with his trusty .30-.30, dead centered
the rope, sending the bottle to the ground.
I then asked the shooters present if any of them had ever
shot at the edge of a playing card. They all replied no. So, six slots were cut in the top
of the target frame, and cards were inserted, with the edge facing the shooters. Two more cards were suspended from some
of the strings left from the previous shoot to flutter in the wind. If someone had told me, I would see what I saw,
I would have laughed. These guys took to this like a duck to water. Pieces of cards began fluttering to the ground as
they were cut in half with rifles, and pistols ( Tony was impressive). And, sure enough Trevor stepped up, and cut a card,
with his old .30-.30. Tell me super bowl is going to be better than this. I DON'T THINK SO. TTYL. Marty
